A plumber in Columbus costs $99 for a diagnostic visit, $399 for a sink or branch drain cleaning, $549 for main sewer root removal with a camera inspection, and $1,999 for a 40 gallon gas water heater installed. Those are our real prices, not estimates.
Most Columbus companies will not tell you a price until a technician is standing in your kitchen. That is a sales technique, not a technical necessity. Here is our entire price list.
Everything below is what we actually charge. Flat rate, approved before work begins, $0 trip charge. Transit & Flow is licensed and insured in Ohio and rated 4.9 stars across 102 verified reviews. Every repair carries a 1 year workmanship guarantee.

How our pricing works
Flat rate means you see one number for the finished job before anyone touches a wrench. Not an hourly rate that grows while you watch. Not a range. One number, in writing, approved by you.
- $0 trip charge. We do not bill you for driving to your house.
- $99 plumbing diagnostic, credited in full. Approve a repair on the same visit and the $99 comes off the repair price.
- The approved price is the price. If the job takes longer than we planned, that is our problem, not your invoice.
- 1 year workmanship guarantee on the labor, plus the manufacturer warranty on the equipment.
What can change a price
Three things genuinely change a job after it is opened up, and we will name them before we quote anything.
- Hidden damage. Rot behind a wall, a cracked closet flange, a corroded branch line that was fine until it was disturbed.
- Code corrections. Work that an inspector will require before signing off, most often on venting, expansion tanks, or bonding.
- Failed shutoffs. An old angle stop or main valve that will not close, which turns a fixture swap into a valve replacement first.
When one of those shows up we stop, show you the actual condition, and hand you a revised written price. You then get the same three choices every time:
- Approve the revised price and we continue.
- Decline and stop. Nothing further is owed beyond the diagnostic. We leave the home safe and secured.
- Approve a reduced scope. We do the part that solves the immediate problem and you schedule the rest when you are ready.
No pressure, no re-quote at the door, no work performed that you did not approve.

Rebates and tax credits: the honest version
Verified as of August 15, 2026. For a central Ohio homeowner replacing a water heater, furnace, or panel right now, there is essentially nothing left to claim. Here is the actual status of every program a contractor might wave at you.
| Program | Status |
|---|---|
| Federal 25C energy efficient home improvement credit | Terminated December 31, 2025 |
| Federal 25D residential clean energy credit | Terminated December 31, 2025 |
| Federal 30C alternative fuel vehicle refueling property credit (EV charger) | Terminated June 30, 2026 |
| Ohio HOMES rebate program | Never opened to applicants |
| Ohio HEAR rebate program | Never opened to applicants |
| Columbia Gas of Ohio residential efficiency programs | Ended |
| AEP Ohio residential equipment rebates | None offered |
We are telling you this because it costs us a sales tool and buys us your trust. A rebate you cannot actually claim is not a discount, it is a closing line.
If a contractor is still advertising a federal tax credit on a water heater, ask them when it expired. The answer tells you how carefully they handle everything else.
Rebate and incentive programs change without notice. Transit & Flow provides this information as a convenience and does not guarantee eligibility or payment. Confirm current terms directly with the administering utility or agency before making a purchase decision.
Pricing questions homeowners actually ask
How much does a plumber cost in Columbus?
At Transit & Flow, a plumbing diagnostic visit is $99 and that $99 is credited in full toward any repair you approve on the same visit. Common jobs run $399 for a sink or branch drain cleaning, $549 for main sewer root removal with a camera inspection, $1,249 for a standard toilet replacement, and $1,999 for a 40 gallon gas water heater installed. Every price we charge is published on this page.
Do you charge a trip charge or a service call fee?
No. The trip charge is $0. You pay $99 for a plumbing diagnostic, which is the technician’s time spent finding the actual problem, and that $99 comes off the repair if you approve the work the same visit. HVAC and electrical diagnostics are $199.
Is the $99 diagnostic fee refundable?
It is credited, not refunded. If you approve a repair on the same visit, the full $99 is applied to the repair price. If you decide not to move forward, you keep the diagnosis and the $99 covers the visit. Nothing else is owed.
Why will other Columbus companies not give me a price over the phone?
Because a price given in your kitchen, after a technician has spent an hour building rapport, is easier to say yes to than a price given over the phone while you are still comparing three companies. That is the entire reason for the ritual. We publish the numbers instead.
Can the price change after work starts?
The flat rate you approve is the price for the scope you approved. It changes only when the job itself changes, for example hidden damage inside a wall, a code correction the inspector will require, or a shutoff valve that fails when we try to close it. If that happens we stop, show you what we found, and give you a revised written price. You then have three choices: approve the revised price, decline and stop with nothing further owed beyond the diagnostic, or approve a reduced scope.
Do you charge more at night or on weekends?
Emergency and after-hours pricing is published like everything else. Standard emergency response is $479, a burst pipe is $629, and after-hours response is $674. There is no surprise multiplier applied at the door.
How much does it cost to replace a water heater in Columbus?
A 40 gallon gas replacement installed is $1,999. A 50 gallon tall gas replacement installed is $2,299, or $2,499 bundled with a ProCare membership. A tankless conversion is $4,595. Those prices include installation, haul away of the old unit, and our 1 year workmanship guarantee.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, financing is available subject to credit approval. Ask about it before the work is scheduled so the terms are settled up front rather than at the end of the job.
Why do you take a deposit on some jobs?
On high-ticket work we order equipment specifically for your home before the install date. The deposit covers that equipment. Deposits are $1,000 on a tankless conversion, a battery backup system, or a complete sump system, $750 on battery backup labor only, $500 on a water heater, and $300 on a toilet. The balance is due on completion.
Are there rebates or tax credits for a new water heater or furnace in 2026?
For central Ohio homeowners, as of August 15, 2026, no. Federal 25C and 25D credits terminated December 31, 2025. Federal 30C for EV chargers terminated June 30, 2026. Ohio HOMES and HEAR never opened to applicants. Columbia Gas residential efficiency programs ended, and AEP Ohio has no equipment rebates. If a contractor is still advertising a federal tax credit on a water heater, ask them when it expired.
