Shut off your main water valve first, then call (614) 333-8092. Emergency response from Transit & Flow is a $479 flat rate, approved before any work begins, and emergency calls are dispatched ahead of routine work. Here is how to stop the water in the next two minutes.
Do This Right Now: Shut Off the Main Water Valve
- Find the valve. In most Columbus homes it is in the basement on the wall facing the street, near where the water line enters, often beside the water meter. No basement? Check the crawl space, the utility room, or the garage wall closest to the street.
- Turn it off. A round wheel handle closes clockwise, turn it until it stops. A lever handle closes with a quarter turn, so the lever sits across the pipe instead of along it.
- Drain the lines. Open the lowest faucet in the house, a basement sink or an outdoor spigot, so the water still in the pipes drains there instead of through your ceiling.
- If only one fixture is the problem, use the small oval stop valve on the supply line under the sink or behind the toilet instead, and you can leave water on for the rest of the house.
- If the water heater is leaking, close the cold water valve on the pipe entering the top of the tank.
- Stay clear of electricity. If water is reaching outlets, appliances, or the electrical panel, do not walk through it. If you can reach your breaker panel safely, shut off power to the wet area.
Cannot find the valve, or it will not turn? Call us at (614) 333-8092 anyway. We will talk you through it while a technician is on the way. The shutoff at the street requires a special key, so do not lose time digging for it.
Emergency Plumbing Prices in Columbus
Water is stressful. The bill should not be. These are flat rates, told to you and approved by you before any work begins.
| Emergency service | Flat rate |
|---|---|
| Standard emergency response | $479 |
| Burst pipe response | $629 |
| After-hours response | $674 |
$0 trip charge at any hour. Emergency calls are dispatched ahead of routine work. Our complete rate sheet for every service is on the Columbus plumbing price list.
What Is Included
- Standard emergency response, $479. Priority dispatch, locating the source of the problem, and the repair work to stop active water damage: a failed supply line, a leaking fixture connection, a valve that will not close.
- Burst pipe response, $629. Priority dispatch, isolating the burst section, and repairing the failed pipe so your water can come back on. Frozen and split copper, failed fittings, and ruptured supply lines are the common cases in central Ohio winters. If the burst has soaked a water heater or the damage runs beyond the pipe itself, we show you before anything is added.
- After-hours response, $674. The same priority dispatch and repair work, outside normal business hours. The after-hours rate is the whole premium. There is no extra call-out fee on top.
What Can Change a Price
A flat rate covers the job as scoped. In an emergency, the full picture sometimes only appears once the water is off: a second split further up the pipe, a corroded section that will not hold a repair, damage that points to a bigger problem in the line. When that happens, we stop and show you exactly what we found.
You always get the same three choices:
- Approve the revised price and we continue.
- Decline and we stop. Your water is off, your home is safe, and you owe nothing beyond what you already approved.
- Approve a reduced scope. We make the emergency safe tonight and give you a written price for the permanent fix.

Book online if the problem is contained and can wait for a scheduled visit: a drip you have under control, a fixture you have isolated with its own shutoff. Use our online scheduler and keep the emergency rate in your pocket.
Emergency Plumbing Questions, Answered Straight
How much does an emergency plumber cost in Columbus?
Standard emergency response is $479, burst pipe response is $629, and after-hours response is $674. Each is a flat rate approved before work begins, with a $0 trip charge.
What counts as a plumbing emergency?
Anything actively putting water or sewage where it should not be: a burst or leaking pipe you cannot stop, sewage backing up into the home, a water heater flooding the floor, or no water to the house. If you are not sure, call and describe it. We will tell you honestly whether it can wait.
Do you charge extra just to come out?
No. The trip charge is $0 at any hour. The after-hours flat rate of $674 covers work outside normal hours. There are no add-on fees stacked on top of the rate you approve.
How fast will you arrive?
Emergency calls are dispatched ahead of routine work. When you call (614) 333-8092 we will give you a real arrival window based on where our closest technician is, not a guess.
Should I shut off the water before you arrive?
Yes. Close the main shutoff valve, then open the lowest faucet in the house to drain the lines. This limits the damage and costs you nothing. The steps at the top of this page walk you through finding the valve.
What if the price changes once you see the job?
Then you get three choices before anything happens: approve the revised price, decline and we stop, or approve a reduced scope. Work never continues past what you have approved.
Is emergency work guaranteed?
Yes. Transit & Flow is licensed and insured in Ohio, and every repair carries a 1-year workmanship guarantee, whether it was done at 2 p.m. or 2 a.m.
